NHS

The ruinous impact of Conservative cuts to the NHS is evident here in Hammersmith, where Charing Cross Hospital is under attack.

It is facing being downgraded and losing its A&E facilities, leaving an urgent care centre just 13 percent the size of the original hospital, with at least 60 per cent of the site being replaced with luxury flats.   I have campaigned to save the hospital for future generations and as MP for Hammersmith I will continue that fight.

As MP for Hammersmith, I will stand up for the NHS with a party that has been at the forefront of championing health. Our party has pledged to invest an extra £6 billion a year for the NHS and social care, paid for with an immediate 1p rise on all rates of income tax.  Hammersmith & Fulham will get £21.5 million of the new health investment.

The funding will be ring-fenced to be spent only on the NHS and social care and will provide vital services with the money they desperately need until a longer-term solution can be found. The Liberal Democrats will set out a ‘five-point recovery plan’ for NHS and social care services in their manifesto.

Former GP Phil Hammond told a recent conference that the Conservatives are very relaxed about the queues in casualty and the disaster in general practice because they don’t believe Labour offers a credible opposition.
As MP for Hammersmith, I will stand up for the NHS with a party that has been at the forefront of championing health.

The Tories’ track record is shameful. In 2015, they vowed to increase the number of GPs by 5,000 over five years.  According to a recent report by the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, in September the number of GPs actually fell by 97 full-time equivalent doctors to 34,495.

I will fight tirelessly to sustain the high-quality care in Hammersmith and throughout the UK that our national healthcare system provides.  I am also very proud that the Liberal Democrats have been at the forefront of the struggle to remove the stigma from mental health care and to elevate mental health to the same status as physical health in our NHS.
